The last nine months for Jim Weyermann have been action packed and intense.
But it’s been worth it, he said.
And because of his actions as well as the actions of the rest of the Golden State Warriors franchise, minor league basketball is coming to Santa Cruz.
Weyermann said the Santa Cruz City Council’s vote early Thursday morning to approve of the team coming to town felt “like we won the league championship.”
The council voted 6-0 on the permits that will pave the way for construction to begin on 140 Front St. There, an approximately 30,000 square-foot arena will be built.
About an hour after that vote, the council voted 6-0 on the financial terms of the deal. Once a $3 million plan, it’s up to about $5 million.
Construction is expected to be done in time for the Warriors’ Dec. 23 home opener.
