MONTEREY — The 2012 Bronco World Series kicked off on Thursday with some virtual fireworks provided by the All-Star squad from Corpus Christi, Texas.
Corpus Christi scored seven runs in the second inning and didn't look back in a 13-2 win against Adirondack, N.Y., at Jacks Park.
It's the first time Corpus Christi has ever participated in the Bronco World Series. In being asked to open up the weeklong tournament along the coast, they showed they have the power to take it all.
In the fateful second inning, 11 batters went to the plate. The only extra-base hit, however, was a double by Dustin Saenz, which scored Michael Garza and William Chapman to put the victors ahead 8-0.
Later in the inning, Justin Hernandez got his second single of the inning — his first started the lengthy frame — and it brought home Aaron Sanchez and William Chayer to give Corpus Christi a 10-0 lead.
One inning later, Hector Gonzalez hit a two-run home run to left field, boosting the spread to 12-0.
Adirondack got on the board in the fourth inning when Jake Fox scored on a single by Ryan Munro. It added another run in the fifth inning when Cody Listing was brought home on a Luke Golo sacrifice fly.
