SAN JOSE — The two men competing in Saturday’s WBC interim Welterweight World Championship fight didn’t want to say much during Wednesday’s news conference at HP Pavilion.

Gilroy’s Robert Guerrero and Selcuk Aydin both expressed confidence in their abilities, and both said they had their best training camp in the weeks leading up to the big bout.

While Aydin brought a big crowd of supporters, Guerrero’s fans were more vocal, verbally agreeing with all that the local fighter had to say.

“I’m in great shape,” Guerrero said. “I haven’t been in this shape ever.”

Guerrero (29-1-1, 18 knockouts) will fight for the first time in 16 months, when he went to the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and won his sixth consecutive match.

But a couple of months after that fight, he injured his shoulder and was forced to back out of a fight scheduled for summer of 2011.

Guerrero, who has won five world championships in three different weight classes, only fought once in 2011.
