The Cabrillo College baseball and softball teams both made the postseason tournaments, and both will have a tough road ahead.
The Seahawks’ baseball team gets under way today, as it faces Los Medanos of Pittsburg in the first round of the California Community College Athletic Association tournament.
The game is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Cabrillo’s field in Aptos.
Cabrillo comes into the tournament with a 21-15 record overall.
It’s the second year in a row the Seahawks have reached the postseason. Only the 1972 and 1973 squads were able to achieve the back-to-back feat.
Cabrillo has won three of its last four games. The squad split a doubleheader on Thursday against Cańada of Redwood City to end the regular season.
The teams have not face each other this season.
Los Medanos comes into the tournament on a six-game winning streak, where its averaged 8.2 runs scored.
The winner of today’s game will face second-seeded San Mateo on Saturday in a three-game series.
Cabrillo’s softball team won’t have to play until the weekend when it starts a three game series with San Joaquin Delta College of Stockton.
The softball team is the 13th seed, while Delta is the fourth seed.
Game 1 is Saturday at 2 p.m., and Game 2 is Sunday at noon. If needed, the rubber match is Sunday at 2 p.m.
Delta lost just twice last month and come into the postseason having won three of its last four games, all by shutout. Seventeen of its 33 wins have been by shutout.
Cabrillo comes into the game with a with a 24-13 record; it won its final two games to end the season.
