One of the best things about baseball and softball is the special moment. It could happen at any time to any pitcher, but most followers don’t say it, out of fear of a possible jinx.
That special moment has happened to a few pitchers in the region this season. It happened to St. Francis Central Coast Catholic’s Digger Gugale one week ago.
Others have been snakebit. Scotts Valley’s Serena Tapuloa was the victim of an infield single. Watsonville High’s Kristina Mio was three outs away, but a comebacker skidded into center field for a hit.
Monte Vista Christian’s Nick Matiasevich and Sam Thorne got the job done earlier this season.
