SANTA CRUZ — There was obvious rust from not having played in 12 days, but the Harbor High boys volleyball team got the job done.

And now, they hope whatever lingering rust is gone when they head up to the summit in a couple of days.

Harbor defeated Aptos in three close games Tuesday night at home to stay in third place in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League.

The Pirates prevailed 25-23, 25-20, 25-21 to improve to 7-2 in league play. The win also pulled them to 9-9 overall; it’s the first time they’ve been .500 all season.

Harbor has won five in a row.
