The Monte Vista Christian School baseball team edged Palma 3-2 in the second round of the Salinas Easter Tournament on Monday.
In the sixth inning, Zander Fisher-Tellez stole third base and came home on an errant throw for the Mustangs’ third run.
“It felt like a playoff game,” said Monte Vista Christian coach Don Keathley.
Andy Muller was the winning pitcher, going 5 1-3 innings while allowing just four hits. He struck out two Palma batters.
Ryan Oxen came in relief in the sixth and pitched the final 1 2-3 innings to get the save.
Sam Thorne had two extra-base hits and scored a run in the third and fifth innings. Austin Muller was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Nick Matiasevich had an RBI hit.
Monte Vista Christian, 2-0 in the tournament, faces Salinas today at 2 p.m. at Hartnell College in the third round of the tournament.
