The City of Watsonville has been awarded a $424,000 grant to create a public access point for canoes and kayaks, including a parking lot, trail and public restroom.

The Pajaro River Community Access, Recreation and Education Project was granted the money in the first round of the River Parkways 2010 Proposition 84 process. The access point will be located at the end of Clearwater Drive, behind the new Water Resource Center.

“We’re real excited about opening that area and making it accessible to the public,” said Bob Geyer, assistant public works director for the City of Watsonville. “There will be picnic tables, restrooms, a drinking fountain. ... It will be a really, really nice amenity for the city, a real nice place for folks who attend the Monterey Bay Birding Festival to check out.”
