LAS LOMAS — Thanks to the concentrated efforts of a grassroots community group, the town of Las Lomas is well on its way to becoming a safer place. For decades residents of Las Lomas have complained about the lack of lighting along their streets during night hours. But now, a crew from Pacific Gas & Electric are busy installing 112 streetlights along all of the roadways in Las Lomas.

Las Lomas Committee member Jesus Corona, who has largely spearheaded the drive, said the lights are being installed now along Las Lomas Drive as the first phase of the three-part project.

“There are some people that have lived here for more than 35 years so this has been going on for a long time,” Corona said. “We’ve done a lot of work in our community. We started getting together with the county and the supervisors telling them of our concerns. The streets in our community are totally dark at night and that is not safe.”
