SPCA plans for new building

SANTA CRUZ A group of cats climb high above the floor, tails dangling precariously but comfortably over a ledge.

Meanwhile, on the bottom floor, dogs, free from cages, are able to roam and interact with other canine members.

This is a scene that the Santa Cruz SPCA is envisioning for its new building, currently in the planning stages.

The SPCA recently purchased a property on 2601 Chanticleer Ave. in Santa Cruz, close to its current location, to build the 8,400-square-foot facility, but it's too early to say when groundbreaking might commence, said Interim Director Sarah Eryavec.
