WATSONVILLE — A new committee tasked with developing strategies leading to the revitalization of Watsonville's downtown met for the first time on Saturday morning at the old City Council chambers.
The Watsonville Downtown Vision Working Group, so named at the Watsonville City Council meeting on April 23 when it was first discussed, was conducted by the city's half-time economic development manager, Kurt Overmeyer, and facilitated by Santa Cruz County's economic development coordinator Barbara Mason.
The workshop was attended by community stakeholders, including a commercial property owner and a handful of business owners.
District 4 Supervisor, Greg Caput and Watsonville Citycouncilwoman Trina Coffman-Gomez were also in attendance.
Watsonville City Councilmembers Felipe Hernandez and Karina Cervantez had been designated to the working group as their jurisdictions fall within the downtown area, but they were unable to attend due to scheduling conflicts, said Overmeyer.
The initial meeting provided an opportunity for those gathered to get to know each other and learn about the current state of Watsonville's struggling downtown.
