WATSONVILLE — Two men robbed the Wooden Nickel Bar and Grill at gunpoint on Freedom Boulevard Sunday night.
Watsonville Police Sgt. Brian Ridgway said both men burst into the popular and long-standing eatery near the corner of Green Valley Road at about 7:30 p.m.
One man wore a Spiderman mask and brandished a handgun, while the other donned a hooded sweatshirt. The duo ordered staff and store patrons to get on the floor and comply. One of the men reportedly grabbed cash out of the cash register while the other suspect kept everyone at bay with the gun. Both suspects escaped on foot, and it is unclear if a vehicle was involved.
No shots were fired and no injuries were reported, Ridgway said.
No suspects have been located, he said.
A five-year Wooden Nickel employee, speaking on the condition of
anonymity, was working Sunday night and described the robbery. The worker said one of the robbers wore a mask. One of the robbers held the gun, while the other held a bag. They were only in the Watsonville mainstay for a few minutes, the employee said.
