Citibank on East Lake Avenue robbed second time in a month

Posted: Monday, Dec 10th, 2012

WATSONVILLE — Watsonville police are looking for a man who used a gun to rob Citibank on East Lake Avenue Monday afternoon.

Tellers told emergency dispatchers the suspect was the same man who held up the same branch of Citibank at 760 East Lake Ave. on Nov. 1.

Police said the man entered the bank at approximately 2:30 p.m. and ordered cash from tellers while displaying a gray handgun. He then left on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. He was last seen running on Lake Village Drive from Tuttle Avenue.

One witness said he got into a tan minivan, either a Dodge or Plymouth.

The suspect is described as a white male adult, 5 feet 8 inches to tall with gray hair and a gray mustache. He was wearing a red sweatshirt and blue jeans.

The robbery came days after Fidel’s Mexican Food at 301 Airport Boulevard was robbed Dec. 5. In that case, an unknown suspect entered the store, brandished a chrome colored handgun at the clerk and demanded money.

On Monday Watsonville police, who were on the scene at East Lake Avenue within minutes, established Project Rope, a county-wide, multiple law agency effort to monitor key roadways and intersections in hopes of snaring the fleeing suspect. No suspect was located.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Watsonville Police Department Investigations Bureau at 768-3350 or the anonymous tip line at 768-3544.
