WATSONVILLE — With a filing deadline looming, it appeared Wednesday that one seat on the Pajaro Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees will be unopposed, meaning that Lupe Rivas will be appointed to the Trustee Area 2 Seat in lieu of an election.
Rivas will replace Doug Keegan, who has held the seat for eight years.
But incumbent Karen Osmundson will square off against business owner Elsa Nuñez for the Trustee Area 3 seat, while Maria Orosco will face Antonio R. Rivas for Trustee Area 6, from which Sandra Nichols is retiring.
Meanwhile, Watsonville City Councilman Lowell Hurst, will run unopposed, as will Trina Coffman-Gomez, who is vying for the vacancy left by Emilio Martinez, will also appear alone on the ballot. Martinez announced in July that he would not seek reelection.
Similarly, Karina Cervantez will not face an opponent as she runs for the seat left by the departing Councilman Oscar Rios.
