WATSONVILLE — More than 20 city neighborhoods participated in Tuesday's National Night Out, the 29th annual national event to promote a drug-, alcohol- and crime-free environment. More than 37.1 million people were expected to participate nationwide.
This is the 14th year Watsonville has participated in the event, which is sponsored by the Watsonville Police Department and Parks and Community Services Department Neighborhood Services Division. More than 20 neighborhoods in the city hosted festivities including games, contests and free barbecues, and most ran from 4-9 p.m.
"It's a great way to communicate and network," Watsonville Police Chief Manny Solano said. "We're just trying to unify the community to stand up against crime."
