WATSONVILLE — When the annual Fourth of July parade rolls down Main Street Wednesday, it will feature fleets of customized vehicles, professional equestrian teams and members of dozens of local organizations such as little league teams, schools and businesses.

These, along with cheerleading teams and city officials waving from slowly moving vehicles, have become woven into the fabric of traditional Independence Day celebrations.

But new this year — and perhaps to the holiday parade scene in general — will be the complete skeleton of a gray whale, riding on the back of a flatbed truck.

The 35-foot-long skeleton is hosted by the Watsonville Environmental Science Workshop and will be on display for anyone to come see at the Marinovich Park Community Center at 120 Second Street Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.
