Animal Hospital of Watsonville moving to Pajaro Plaza

WATSONVILLE — After 33 years, the Animal Hospital of Watsonville will be moving from its location on Pennsylvania Drive to the Pajaro Plaza shopping center.

“The number one reason is to have a better location to serve the public,” said Dr. Donald Mayer, who built the hospital in 1979.

Mayer hopes to have the doors open at the new location during the first week of June.

The hospital’s original location on 150 Pennsylvania Dr. is slightly hidden behind the La Princesa Market shopping center, Mayer said, which was another reason for the move.

“Even though we’ve been here for so long, people still say ‘where are you located?’” he said.

The corner location on South Green Valley Road and Main Street will be the first building drivers see as they exit Highway 1, an ideal spot that is better than “being tucked away inside of a shopping center parking lot,” Mayer said. All the through traffic through the Pajaro Plaza itself will be a plus as well, he added.

The animal hospital will move into the old Harley-Davidson shop, which closed in 2008, along with Papa John’s Pizza, which is planned to open in late August. Papa John’s will receive the windowed space at 1061 South Green Valley Rd., while the Animal Hospital of Watsonville will move into the adjacent 1059 address.
