Small-business owner McInnis looking to retool county regulations

APTOS — Rich McInnis is an Aptos business owner whose multiple conflicts with the County of Santa Cruz Planning Department launched his run for the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors 2nd District seat.

A Silicon Valley tech industry retiree who used his life savings to buy and restore the Seabreeze Tavern, McInnis said he would reform the planning department and other areas of the county government to be more welcoming to businesses and homeowners.

McInnis said the problems he’s faced point to larger, systemic problems within county government.

“I can’t imagine they’re doing other things right when they’re doing this so wrong,” he said.
