WATSONVILLE — On Friday, a work crew at E.A. Hall Middle School was busy performing an upgrade on a bathroom that will bring back into use a facility that has been out of commission and used as a storage space for years.
Nearby, a group of students in P.E. class was outside running around the school’s track, being careful to avoid the field so strewn with gopher holes that several students and staff have reported twisted ankles and other injuries.
At nearly 75 years old, E.A. Hall is one of the district’s oldest facilities and according to Pajaro Valley Unified School District officials is in need of more than $20 million in modernization work.
But those problems are included in a $250 million laundry list of other repairs needed at the 40 or so aging facilities throughout the district. That will be the subject of discussion when the Pajaro Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees meets Wednesday.
