Robert L. De Rose died Friday, July 10, 2009, at Watsonville Community Hospital after a period of declining health. He was 78.
Born in Aptos, Mr. De Rose lived in North Monterey County for most of his life. He attended local schools and served in the National Guard. Mr. De Rose and his son Chris ran De Rose & Son Trucking, a business that primarily transports berries for export for Driscoll Associates. The business evolved from earlier box and carton operations. Mr. De Rose also ran a retail floral nursery for several years.
Mr. De Rose is survived by his wife, Betty Jean De Rose of Watsonville; two sons, Chris L. De Rose of Watsonville and Lynn De Rose of Stevenson Ranch; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will take place Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mehlís Colonial Chapel, followed by a graveside service officiated by Rev. George Erickson at 2 p.m. at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park, 127 Hecker Pass Road in Watsonville.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 945 S. Main St., Suite 201, Salinas, CA 93901; to the Alzheimerís Association, 1777-A Capitola Road, Santa Cruz, CA 95062; or to the donorís favorite charity.
