One man was arrested and an entire neighborhood was displaced following a tip that led to the discovery of more than 1,000 pounds of explosives and other hazardous materials.
About 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a representative of the Santa Cruz County Health Services Agency warning police of a local freight agency that was scheduled to deliver 350 pounds of dangerous substances to a residence located at 215 25th Ave. in Santa Cruz.
Sheriff’s deputies went to the residence and contacted the occupant, Stanley Vallelunga, who was allegedly under the influence of a controlled substance. While on the property, the deputies found illegal materials used to manufacture illegal fireworks, police said. The sheriff’s bomb squad was then called to the scene, and Vallelunga was arrested.
